When students talk about Peach Pit, people often wonder why they are discussing the middle of a peach when, in reality, they are discussing an up and coming indie band.

Peach Pit is a four-piece Vancouver-based band that consists of bassist Peter Wilton, drummer Mike Pascuzzi, lead guitarist Chris Vanderkooy and vocalist/rhythm guitarist Neil Smith.
"We try hard to write good songs and hope that people will listen to them and like them," front man Neil Smith said.
Peach Pit has a very unique sound. Their songs vary in style, going from a more surf-pop sound to a grittier "bubblegum pop" sound and even quieter ballads.
In each style, Peach Pit utilizes intricate guitar solos featuring lead guitarist Chris Vanderkooy in every song. Some listeners question what genre of music Peach Pit falls into because they vary their song styles.
"It's hard to say nowadays because of influences from rock songs and pop and different things but I think I'd say we're indie rock," Smith said. Regardless of their style, Peach Pit's songs vary in theme, usually sticking to more personal topics.
"I write songs about friendships and personal things like relationships and goofy things we've done," Smith said, "they're mostly sad, even the more upbeat songs."
Peach Pit's discography currently includes their EP titled 'Sweet FA', released in June of 2016, followed by their debut album 'Being So Normal', released in September of 2017 and a cover a cover of 'Did I Make You Cry on Christmas Day? (Well, You Deserved It)' by Sufjan Stevens, released in December of 2017. The band is currently in the process of making their next album.
Along with their unique sound, Peach Pit's look is also one of a kind. Each member has their own colorful outfit purchased from thrift stores that they wear during each performance. The lack of change in their appearance and use of bright colors gives the band a cartoonish feel.
Students who may be interested in having a successful career in music can take advice from Peach Pit.
"My best advice is, if you want to be a band or songwriter or anything in music, go for it. Many people don't try because it's scary to put yourself out there but seriously, just do it," Smith said.
